Lose Weight With Vertical Jumps

If you're trying to burn fat and lose weight, vertical jumps (and like exercises) will help you burn fat and sculpt your lower body! You will also begin to lose more weight as your body changes and your metabolism speeds up (with weight training and high intensity exercises/cardio).

See various jump exercises on Speed Camp Youtube video!

Vertical jumps will burn more fat because they are very intense! Shorten and intensify your workouts with jump training (plyometrics)! Plyometric workouts also burn more fat and calories during and after your workout! Just do 3 sets of 8-10 repetitions at full speed! Jump as high and fast as you can and jump on a soft surface like rubber or grass to protect your knees against injury.

If you're having trouble sculpting your butt, hips and thighs then you need to do more jump training.

Jump training workouts are advanced workouts. You need to perfect jumping and landing techniques or you will injure yourself. And, if you have knee and low back problems, high-speed vertical jumps are not for you.

Lose Weight With Challenging Exercises

If you want to lose weight and burn fat, do more challenging exercises! Challenge yourself with exercises that test your balance, coordination, strength and flexibility! Step "outside the box" and try new exercises. If you do, I guarantee you will lose more weight and burn more fat!

Try some of these challenging exercises:

1. Incorporate many one-legged exercises such as power step ups (pictured above), single leg squats, single leg good mornings, single leg medicine ball exercises, etc. These types of exercises are more intense than two-legged exercises.

2. Include exercises with your eyes closed to improve limb position sense (proprioception). This will also help you burn more fat and calories!

3. Exercise your body in all 3 planes of motion to improve multi-planar balance. An example would be a grouping of walking lunges, side lunges and transverse lunges.

4. Exercise on different surfaces such as grass, sand, astro-play and soft surfaces to add more challenge.

5. Do combinations of one-arm and one-leg exercises such as single leg squat-to-single arm shoulder press.

6. Jump rope every day using different variations---two feet, one foot, shuffle, etc. Jumping rope is one of the best body coordination exercises out there. And, speed jump rope is even better to burn more fat.

7. Quickness and agility drills will burn fat like crazy and improve your dynamic balance.

Balance training also improves your core strength.

Challenge yourself more and watch the weight and fat melt away!

Burn Fat Exercising Major Muscle Groups

Burn more fat by exercising major muscle groups, not by working out longer! Maximize your time in the gym and get the results you want! The quality of your workouts are better than the quantity of your workouts!

Have you been working out for 2 long hours per session with little or no results?! Shorten your weight training workouts to 50 minutes or less and ramp up the intensity! In other words, work harder (on major muscle groups) for a shorter period of time and you'll get more fat burn and calorie burn during and after your workout!

Do as many compound strength exercises (with weights or bodyweight) standing up as possible. These types of exercises work major muscle groups and many times are full-body strength exercises. Squats, deadlift, lunges, standing bentover rows, squat-to curl-to press and bench press are great examples. Full-body core exercises like planks and side planks work well also. Spend less time posing on "mirror exercises" like bicep curls, calf raises and tricep extensions.

Here is a good fat-burning workout:

Do each exercise one after the other with little or no rest between exercises. Rest 3 minutes between circuits. Do the circuit 4 times.

1. Bulgarian Split Squats (pictured above), 10 repetitions each leg
2. Plank, 15 repetitions, 5 second hold
3. Pushups on Medicine Ball, 10 repetitions
4. Step Ups (knee high platform), 10 repetitions each leg
5. Bentover alternating arm dumbbell rows, 10 repetitions
6. Clock Lunges, 5 repetitions each leg
7. Standing alternating arm dumbbell shoulder press, 10 repetitions
8. Repeat circuit 3 more times.

This type of workout will help you break through your weight loss and fat loss plateau.

Fat-Burning Cardio

Burn fat with your cardio workouts! If you aren't burning fat, change up your cardio routine. Change your thought process about how you do your cardio. If your cardio workout sessions are 45 minutes to an hour, get ready to change (if you want to burn fat and tone your body)!

Long, slow cardio sessions wastes time and your precious muscle mass also wastes away! Anaerobic cardio sessions, like sprint intervals, have been proven to give superior heart-health and fat-burn! So, stop wasting your time and start building your lean, mean fat-burning machine! Devote more time to strength training and less time to cardio! That way, you will build more muscle mass and speed up your metabolism!

Burn Fat And Lose Weight Faster

Burn fat and lose weight faster by using shorter, more intense workouts. If you're working out 2 hours a day, stop now! You're wasting valuable time and probably breaking down your body. Exercise smarter, not harder and longer! A 30-40 minute workout will help you reach your fat loss goals.

Intense, fat-burning, speed-based workouts give you maximum benefits in minimum time! One 20-minute, speed-based workout will burn tons of calories and fat---during and after your workout!

Speed-based workouts don't have to be "running only" workouts. But, running sprints are usually included in a speed-based workout. Working out at a fast pace has been proven to shape and sculpt your body better because these type of workouts activate your bulkier, shapely fast twitch muscle fibers.

If you are going to use a fat-burning, speed-based workout, you need to learn correct running mechanics! Many people I see running have terrible running mechanics! Bad running mechanics make your workouts inefficient and many times lead to injuries.

You should master the basic running mechanics to become faster and more efficient. Posture, arm action and leg action are keys to improving your speed and workout efficiency.

Other fat-burning, speed-based exercises you can do during your workout are jumps, medicine ball exercises and agility drills (like shuttles). Master bodyweight speed exercises before progressing to assisted or weight-bearing speed exercises.

Your body also needs adequate strength (including core strength) and speed strength (power) for you to avoid injuries doing these type of risky workouts.

Running and jumping will not give you the leg strength you will need to sculpt your legs. You should strengthen your legs with exercises like squats, step ups and lunges because these exercises use the same pathways that it takes to run with speed.

You have to train fast to get faster, burn more fat and better sculpt your body!

Lose Weight Safely

Lose weight safely and steadily and it will stay off (if you continue your exercise program). If you lose weight this way, you are also building muscle and burning fat. Your body will gradually change to lean and toned. And, you will be healthy and look great. This process takes time and hard work folks! No quick remedies will give you the "killer body" you want.

I was reading this article about a fad diet, "Lose 18 Pounds In 4 Days." That's crazy and if you fall for that you will be sick and maybe hospitalized!

I have said this before so here it is again: losing weight and burning fat is not the most important thing in your life (it improves the quality of your life). Television commercials try to make you feel that way because they are trying to sell you their quick weight loss program! Don't buy in! These programs almost always lead you to yo-yo dieting and even more weight gain, frustration and bad health.

It is safe to lose about 2 pounds per week (on average) as a part of your exercise program. At the beginning of your program, you might lose more weight and then level off in later weeks.

So, if you want to lose 30 pounds the right way, expect it to take about 15 weeks. Your genetic makeup and compliance to your meal plan are two factors that could increase/decrease this time frame.

What is the right way to exercise? A combination of interval cardio exercise (3-4 days a week) and resistance training (at least 3 days a week) is a proven effective permanent fat loss/weight loss combination. Resistance training will cause the majority of your weight loss to be fat loss (increasing lean mass at the same time) and it will also speed up your metabolism.

Portion Control Is Key To Weight Loss

Portion control will help you stay with your meal plan and control your calories during the day. Don't ruin great workouts by eating bad food with a million calories! Its possible to hide those hard-earned muscles with a thick layer of fat! Don't fight against yourself!

We are kings and queens of "too large" servings of food and that's without even "super-sizing" anything! Keep your daily food journal to track what, how much and why you are eating! This will help you with portion control.

Make needed changes to your eating habits and reach your fat loss and weight loss goals!

MAKE THE COMMITMENT TO CHANGE YOUR EATING HABITS AND DON'T "GIVE UP" EVEN IF YOU "GIVE IN" AT TIMES! PERSEVERANCE IS THE KEY TO BEING SUCCESSFUL WITH ANYTHING!

It will be easier to keep your commitment if you plan your meals for the week. And, instead of eating out during the day, pack your food. This will protect you from binge eating and haphazard eating (i.e. grazing).

Here are some common sense do's and don'ts when it comes to eating:

Cut out these foods: sodas, sugary fruit juice drinks, candy, cookies, donuts, fried meats and fried foods, fast foods, ketchup, mayonnaise

Add these foods: whole grain breads, whole grain cereals, oatmeal, almonds, nuts, low-fat dairy products, low-fat yogurt, fruits, veggies, unsweetened tea, water, lean meats (baked, broiled or grilled), olive oil, cinnamon, mustard. You get the idea!

Burn Fat Using Strength Exercises

Strength exercises will burn fat and lean out your body. Build more muscle mass to speed up your metabolism and burn more fat.

To recruit more muscle fibers during workouts and improve your success, focus more on MULTI-JOINT OR COMPOUND EXERCISES.

COMPOUND EXERCISES will help you burn more fat because you are working large muscle groups in your body. For example, the largest muscle in the body is the gluteus maximus and squats/lunges would target this area (among other areas). You will also burn more calories after your workout.

Examples of SINGLE-JOINT EXERCISES are biceps curl, seated calf raise, leg extension, leg curl and triceps pushdowns. Spend less of your time on these exercises.

Here are some top strength exercises that will help you burn fat:

Squats - Bodyweight, dumbbell or barbell....do your squats!

Deadlift - Deadlift is a must for your exercise program. It is also one of the best ways to build muscle thickness in your lower back. Lower back fat is a problem for many people.

One-arm dumbbell rows and Pullups - These two are a must for any routine so I'm counting them as one exercise.

Clock Lunges - Clock lunges work your body in all planes of motion. Lunge with your right leg at 12 o’clock, 2 o’clock, 3 o’clock, 5 o’clock and 6 o’clock. That’s 1 repetition for your right leg. Lunge with your left leg at 12 o’clock, 10 o’clock, 9 o’clock, 7 o’clock and 6 o’clock. That’s 1 repetition for left leg. Maintain upright posture throughout to improve core strength.

Dumbbell Chest Press on Ball - Doing the chest press on the ball forces you to balance while lifting. Each arm also has to do equal work.

You should also include exercises like standing shoulder presses, step ups, pushups on medicine ball and tricep bar dips in my workouts.

Spring Season Body Fat Assessment

Its a good idea to get a Spring season body fat and fitness assessment if you have been inactive for a while. You need to know where you are with fitness and how to begin taking steps to improve your health. If you are overweight or have too much body fat (a skinny person can have too much body fat), your body is not as healthy as it could be....start making changes today!

Here are some tips:

1. Identify your fitness goals and determine why your fat loss and weight loss efforts have failed or succeeded in the past. You also have to get your motivation right for your exercise program to work for you. This step takes you being "very honest" with yourself! Sometimes it is a painful process.

2. You will learn your body composition (body fat % vs. lean mass %). You will also learn "where you are fat." Excess abdominal fat has been shown to be a precursor to diseases such as cancer.

3. When's the last time you had your body measurements taken (chest, arms, neck, hips, waist, etc.)? This is part of your fitness assessment.

4. What's your health history? You might need a doctor's clearance before you can begin an exercise program.

5. What are your eating habits? Part of your assessment will look at what you are eating, how you are eating and changes that you need to make.

6. What is your basal metabolic rate? Don't know? You will after your fitness assessment. This rate helps you set the daily calories you will need.

7. Have you had low back pain for some time? If so, you probably have postural problems that need to be corrected. And, yes, a postural assessment is part of your fitness assessment.

8. Had any muscle spasms or "knotted muscles" lately? Then, you need to improve your flexibility. The fitness assessment will tell you where your muscles are tight, lengthened or weak.

9. When's the last time you checked your resting pulse rate? Your resting pulse rate will tell you how hard your heart is working in a resting state. For instance, my resting pulse rate was 58 beats per minute the last time I checked it. That's pretty low. When I was at peak condition as a college athlete, my resting pulse rate was 54-56 beats per minute.

10. How ready is your body for physical activity? You don't know? You will after your fitness assessment!

What are you waiting for? Schedule your fitness and nutrition assessment today! It won't cost you anything but your time (about 45 minutes)! Call (512-289-8879) or email me at the bottom of this post! Don't put it off!

Cardio That Burns More Fat

Doing the right type of cardio will burn more fat. First, stop doing 60-minute cardio sessions unless you are walking to get back in shape. Too many long, slow cardio sessions will waste away your muscle mass. Having less muscle mass will slow down your metabolism.

Cardio is a favorite exercise for gym-goers. Any activity that makes you burn calories is good. The question that should be answered is "how to do your cardio" to get the fat loss and weight loss results you want. Aerobic exercise is an activity that is done continuously for more than 2 straight minutes.

Here are some fat-burning cardio tips:

Traditional long, slow lower-intensity aerobic exercise on treadmills, bikes, ellipticals, etc. is good for beginners or those who have been inactive.

Research has proven that the benefits of anaerobic exercise (like sprint interval cardio) is superior to aerobic exercise for fitness and heart health. The progression of your cardio exercise should be low-intensity aerobics to moderate/high-intensity aerobics to high-intensity anaerobic exercise.

High intensity cardio (HIC) and high intensity interval cardio training(HIIT) will give you faster body fat burn in less time. You only need to do 20 minutes per session, 3 times a week.

High intensity cardio (HIC) and high intensity interval cardio training (HIIT) will: a) significantly boost your metabolism--during and after exercise, b) give you less lean body mass loss, c) give you a faster rate of body fat-to-energy conversion and d) significantly increase your VO2 Max capacity.

Circuit weight training (including bodyweight circuits) has dual benefits as a strength/cardio workout.

If HIC or HIIT is too hard on your body, you might want to try a HIC, HIIT and moderate intensity combination during the week. Just get to know your body so you know when to back off.

The evidence is clear----if you want maximum body fat burn in the least amount of time, then HIC and HIIT is the way to go! I personally do 2 days of HIIT, 2 days of HIC and 2 days of circuit weight training per week. I know it works.

Reach Weight Loss and Fat Loss Goals

Reach your weight loss and fat loss goals with the right motivation shift.

Your motivation needs to be right and realistic. Unrealistic goals (like lose 30 pounds in 10 days) can leave you mentally and physically exhausted with disappointing results.

One thing I do know: MAKE THE COMMITMENT TO HEALTH AND FITNESS BECAUSE YOU ARE WORTH IT! THOSE AROUND YOU WILL BENEFIT TOO! FOCUS ON FAT LOSS, NOT WEIGHT LOSS! BUILDING MUSCLE MASS BURNS THE FAT, KEEPS IT OFF AND SPEEDS YOUR METABOLISM.

Here's some motivation tips for you:

1. Get your overall motivation right!
These types of motivations will work: a) exercise and eat right because its good for YOU and YOU CARE ABOUT YOU and b) exercise because you enjoy it (find exercise types that you enjoy)!

2. Set short-term and long-term goals. A good short-term goal would be to cut sugary foods and drinks from your diet for the week. A longer term goal would be to follow your total meal plan for a day, a week, two weeks, etc. Reward yourself with each victory!

You could do the same type thing with exercise....maybe you can't do running cardio intervals just yet...start with fast-walking cardio intervals, work up to jogging intervals and then fast-running cardio intervals.

You can reach your weight loss and fat loss goals! Stay with it---YOU ARE WORTH IT!

March Madness Medicine Ball Workout

Its March Madness time again! As you watch the NCAA basketball tournament, get in a workout or two during the first 4-day basketball weekend fest. I have the perfect workouts for you!

Use medicine ball workouts to exercise in the transverse plane of motion. This plane is not worked nearly enough by many people. Your body goes through many transverse motions during the day when you twist, turn and rotate your body (like basketball players).

Your training needs to reflect how you live day to day. Its not that difficult to adjust your workout routine. Here are some good medicine ball transverse plane exercises:

1. walking lunges with medicine ball twist (pictured above)
2. standing, kneeling or sitting medicine ball rotations
3. diagonal medicine ball chops (with back foot rotation)
4. medicine ball side toss (rotate your hips when throwing)

Training in the transverse plane of motion will also add intensity and fat burning to your workouts (especially if its new to you)!

Restart Exercise--Today!

Restart your exercise program today! Don't put it off! The biggest barrier to starting any project is "getting started."

The top reasons I see for people not starting exercise are 1) "not knowing what to do or where to start" and 2) "fear of setting and attaining goals."

Research has proven that setting low goals or no goals will bring you very little success. There are many reasons why you might not want to set fitness goals. A trainer can help you visualize your goals during the first consultation.

One quick way to start getting active again is to just start walking every day. You don't have to think about a program---just start walking 20-30 minutes every day. After a week or so, you could start thinking about a more formal training program. You might need a trainer to help you jumpstart your exercise.

Start doing something active. Do you like to dance? Go dancing.

Any Fat Loss After 2 Months?

Do you have significant fat loss after 2 months of exercising this year? Are you making any progress with your fitness, health, fat loss and weight loss goals? If the answer is not yes to all questions, you need a better exercise program or you need to commit to consistent exercise (or both)!

Two months is plenty of time for you to see progress with fitness, health, fat loss and weight loss! Your clothes should be fitting looser, your body should be more toned, you should be able to do some type of interval cardio (instead of slow-paced cardio), you should be able to get through a 30-40 minute circuit weight training workout, etc.

Are you feeling overwhelmed from the whole exercise/fitness/meal plan/fat loss/weight loss puzzle? Don't think you will ever get your body to what you want?

Whatever the case, it doesn't have to be that way....you can do it.....with some help! Don't underestimate the value of well-designed fitness program put together by a certified personal trainer. It makes all the difference because you get direction, feedback and encouragement from a trainer who is fit and knows what it takes to get fit and stay fit.

Sculpt Your Body With Weight Training

If you want to sculpt your body, do more weight training exercises! Do more weight training exercises that test your balance, coordination, strength and flexibility! This might require that you put that old favorite workout on the shelf and try something new! If you do, I guarantee you will burn more fat and lose more weight!

Try some of these weight training exercises:

4. Do combinations of one-arm and one-leg exercises such as single leg squat-to-single arm shoulder press.

Balance training also improves your core strength.

Challenge yourself more with weight training and sculpt your body!

Fat Loss Workout

If you want fat loss, your workouts need to be intense enough to burn fat. It is that simple. To do this, you might need to make some changes to your workout program!

If you are taking 5 minutes between exercise sets (talking to friends), that probably won't get the job done. If you have a workout partner who is not serious about working out hard, find another workout partner. Work harder for a shorter period of time and you'll burn more fat and calories during and after your workout! An intense 30-40 minute workout will work just fine.

Rest 2-3 minutes between circuits. Do the circuit 3 times.

1. Bulgarian Split Squats (pictured above), 15 repetitions each leg
2. Ball Plank, 15 repetitions, 5 second hold
3. Pushups on Medicine Ball, 20 repetitions
4. Step Ups with Knee Lift (knee high platform), 10 repetitions each leg
5. Pullups, 10 repetitions
6. Walking Lunges, 10 repetitions each leg
7. Standing dumbbell shoulder press, 10 repetitions
8. Repeat circuit 2 more times.

This type of workout will help you break through your fat loss and weight loss plateau.

Sculpt Your Body For Life Or Sports

Sculpt your body for how you want to live, whether its to live an active, healthy life and/or to play your favorite sport! Just as you set other high personal goals for financial and relationship success, set your health and fitness goals high and realistic (challenging and attainable).

Do you want to be able to walk, jog, cut your lawn, trim the hedges, run a marathon or play on your league soccer team? Then, you must be healthy and fit. You must burn body fat and lose weight! Either way, you will benefit from My Fitness Hut's Fat Blaster Athletic Training System.

Don't risk your health and fitness on a quick weight loss program! Don't sell yourself short and settle for just another fad diet designed to give you short term weight loss. Fad diets don't work because you can't maintain them---you need a healthy meal plan that you can maintain over time.

My Fitness Hut's Fat Blaster Athletic Training System is designed to give you the best lean and toned body that you can attain and maintain. It is the best and quickest way to give you that lean, toned body. And, according to research, you will also have superior heart health because of the circuit weight training and interval cardio sessions.

What about your 6-pack abs? You will have those too (and a strong overall core)! My athletic abs training system will give you ripped abs (and core) that are functional in everyday life or in sporting activities. Exercises like medicine ball chops and throws use natural motions and build your core to meet the demands of life or sports.

But you will have so much more than that:

At My Fitness Hut, I have designed all of my exercise programs based on a Fat Blaster Athletic Training System. Here are the reasons:

1) There is not a better or faster way to sculpt your body. You also get superior heart health. Research and my personal experience backs this up. Just look at an athlete's body. And, we are all athletes to some extent. There are varying degrees of athletic training---some techniques are more intense than others. I tailor the program to your fitness level and/or limitations. I have programs for men, women and teens!

2) I am a former NCAA Division I athlete, so I'm not playing a guessing game when it comes to this type of training. I use research, empirical evidence and real-life experience to develop training programs.

3) My Fitness Hut's Fat Blaster Athletic Training System doesn't require marathon training sessions. We all have a tight schedule. No circuit weight training session last longer than 1 hour and some sessions are as short as 30 minutes. Interval cardio sessions are about 20 minutes.

Sign up for My Fitness Hut's Fat Blaster Athletic Training System. You will get the health and lean body that you need and want (including those 6-pack abs) to live a vigorous life and/or play sports!
