Body Composition Change Is Key To Weight Loss

Change your body's composition to more muscle and less fat to keep weight loss off for good. That's easier said than done but you must keep that as your main goal when trying to lose weight. It also takes longer to change your body's composition, so be patient. Its worth the wait. Quick weight loss gimmicks will never work for you.

What if the bathroom scale only showed you your body fat percentage and not your weight? That wouldn't be a bad thing. A woman or man with 10-15% body fat is never a bad thing. Body composition (less fat, more lean mass) is the key to permanent weight loss.

If you lose 20 pounds in 10 days using severe calorie restriction with no exercise (you probably won't have the energy to exercise), just about all of that weight loss will be lost muscle mass! You need to increase your lean mass to permanently speed up your metabolism! You need to build a lean body that will give you good health and one that will last through the years of your life. If you rush the fitness process, it won't work!

Fortunately, muscle mass can be maintained/increased (and body fat decreased) throughout your life through weight training and cardio exercise. Weight training also helps to keep your bones strong (preventing osteoporosis).

When was the last time you had your body fat percentage checked? Make a habit of doing this once a month. Or, you could get a scale that will tell you your weight and body fat percentage. Then, you will know your real progress.

Gym Class Wallflower To Fitness Enthusiast

"I Was A Gym Class Wallflower" is an article contributed by Heather Dugan, my good friend, voice-over talent, fitness enthusiast and professional traveler:

It’s true. Pressed against the cafeteria wall, hoping to camouflage my lack of athletic experience and skill as blasé disinterest–that was me. This surprises all those who missed my mandatory sixth grade gymnastics routine–heavy on dramatic spins and arm flourishes that did little to hide the fact that my abilities were limited to somersaults, ballet-style cartwheels and half of a back walk-over (as I recall it, half of my three minute routine was spent ineffectively attempting to kick my way back out of a backbend…riveting humiliation when viewed on a TV monitor outside the cafeteria during the high traffic lunch hour!).

I’m a fairly fit 40-something now, but the truth is, I sort of stumbled into personal fitness.

My first foray into team sports came my senior year of high school. Lacrosse. How good was I? Good enough to be my coach’s gift to an opposing team when they were short a couple of players for our game. My team won–that is, the team I arrived with, not the team I guest-played for, but I chose to call it a victory. And it was. I’d shown up and put my feet on the field.

I began running towards the end of college, primarily for the opportunity it provided my friends and I to pass a local fraternity on a regular basis. Running didn’t require great amounts of coordination (right left, right left… I could do that), and once I got past the whole “do I look silly” question, I found I enjoyed it.

The running habit stuck. My folks didn’t really know what to make of it when I returned home for summer break. We’d hiked and biked in the course of our travels, but with a regular exercise routine, I’d now swung far out of “normal” for my family. I kept at it anyways, because I was already noticing some remarkable benefits: less stress, more confidence, focused “thinking time” -and best of all, my “skinny” body now had runner’s legs.

Above the waist, however, I had the same willowy rag doll physique I’d always had. It lacked a certain something, but I just didn’t know what. Yet…

Years later, after prolonged manual labor on a landscaping project followed by an unfortunate stint on crutches, a neighbor commented favorably on my muscular “definition.” I confess that I had no idea what she meant. I looked in the mirror that evening, however, and discovered that I’d somehow grown baby arm muscles. I made an instant connection between my recent increases in strength and energy and decided to keep them.

Worth noting: These new muscles were “born” in my very late 30s making them younger than my three children! In the beginning, it was as simple as incorporating a few push-ups and crunches into my mornings. I advanced to trying pull-ups and chin-ups at playgrounds while playing with my kids. My method was simply to try and do at least as much as I did the last time. Nothing set in stone, but it became another positive habit to build upon. Eventually, I added free weights and began looking at how to further improve-rather than simply maintain, my accidental fitness. My “stumble” into physical fitness had taken me to a good place, and I was hooked.

That’s it! I use a gym now and find that the variety helps me keep my work-outs fresh and interesting. I lack the time for perfection but surge ahead on the theory that something is always better than nothing at all. I view my gym and outdoor running time as 1) my best investments in my future health, and 2) a sure way to keep positive about the present!

So, when a young lady stopped me at the gym last week to ask what I did and if she was too late, I smiled. I told her that she was so far ahead of me already and gave her the basics of my routine along with a couple words of encouragement.

We’re all made so differently, and the same regimens will look completely different on the bodies of two different women. But, we can all do something to maximize what we’ve been given.

And confidentially, it’s much more fun to be out on the gym floor than leaning against a padded wall. Take if from a former wallflower.

Half-Way To Your Fitness Goals After 6 Months?

Are you making any progress with your fitness, health, fat loss and weight loss goals after 6 months of exercise this year? Is your health better? If the answer is not yes to both questions, you need a better exercise program or you need to commit to consistent exercise (or both)!

Six months is plenty of time for you to see progress with fitness, health, fat loss and weight loss! Your clothes should be fitting looser, your body should be more toned, you should be able to do some type of interval cardio (instead of slow-paced cardio), you should be able to get through a 40 minute circuit weight training workout, etc.

Are you feeling overwhelmed from the whole exercise/fitness/meal plan/fat loss/weight loss puzzle? Don't think you will ever get your body to what you want?

Whatever the case, it doesn't have to be that way....you can do it.....with some help! Don't underestimate the value of well-designed fitness program put together by a certified personal trainer. It makes all the difference because you get direction, feedback and encouragement from a trainer who is fit and knows what it takes to get fit and stay fit.

Top 5 Fat Loss Commitments

You have to make fat loss commitments to lose fat! Just common sense right? And, you have to make the right commitments or you'll end up frustrated and going in circles! So, here is my Top 5 Fat Loss Commitment List to get you started on the way to blasting the fat and getting the lean and toned body that you want:

1. Make a commitment to a lifetime of fitness. This commitment trumps all other fitness commitments. Without it, you will always fall prey to the inevitable obstacles and pitfalls along the way.

2. Be willing to change your eating habits! Sixty to 70% of your fitness goal success or failure will depend on good nutrition. Since you must eat to survive, get ready to change! Get rid of the fad diets! Start planning your own meals using a mix of carbohydrates, fats and proteins.

3. You MUST change your body composition! You must increase lean muscle mass to become a “fat-burning machine.” You don't need to be a body builder but you need to replace the fat (to an acceptable body fat percentage) on your body with muscle mass.

4. You must do more than cardio exercise to change your body composition! That's right cardio queens and kings---read commitment #5!

5. Make a commitment to full-body strength training! Among other things, it builds muscle mass, speeds up your metabolism (the body has to work harder to maintain muscle) and helps improve your bone density. And, you’ll look great!

Are You Making Progress With Fat Loss?

Are you making any progress with your fat loss and weight loss after 3-1/2 months of exercise this year? Is your health better? If the answer is not yes to both questions, you need a better exercise program or you need to commit to consistent exercise (or both)!

Fourteen weeks is enough time for you to see progress with fat loss! Your clothes should be fitting looser, your body should be more toned, you should be able to do some type of interval cardio (instead of slow-paced cardio), you should be able to get through a 50 minute circuit weight training workout, etc.

Here are some observations (the same observations I had 6 months ago, 1 year ago, etc.) that I see in some people I know:

1. Some of you are still doing the same poorly designed workouts and getting the same "little or no success results" from your workouts. You're still throwing your money away at these gyms.

2. Then, there are those who have decided to follow a workout program they found in a fitness magazine.....this is better than you trying to figure it all out on your own but a program found in a magazine is not individualized for your specific fat loss needs and goals.

3. There's a group of you who have already given up the fight to get fit because you are overwhelmed.....you don't believe you can really get a "leaned out" body.

4. Some still think they can eat like they always have and just workout longer and harder. The only problem with this tactic is that it does no good to burn 500 calories during a workout and later eat 900 calories of bad food.

5. Some are still wasting money on pills, patches, creams and fat-burner supplements......its the workouts and good nutrition that will get you fit!

6. There's still a group of you who haven't figured out that it takes hard, smart workouts to get fit......you need to learn how to workout hard.

7. And, some have gym memberships they still aren't using.

Whatever the case, it doesn't have to be that way......don't underestimate the value of well-designed fitness program put together by a certified personal trainer. It makes all the difference because you get direction, feedback and encouragement from a trainer who is fit and knows what it takes to get fit and stay fit.

Get the help you need to get fit! Visit the link directly below and get started on your way to the "leaned out" body you want! And, you don't need a gym membership!

Over-Training And Under-Eating With Small Results

Over-training and under-eating with small results is common with alot of people...how do you know if you are over-training? Here are some signs:

1. Sluggishness
2. Lack of control during exercises
3. Longer rest periods are needed between sets
4. You are usually tired before your workouts
5. You are stressed out (when exercise should be your stress-buster!)

I was talking to a friend last week who is trying to lose weight too fast. First, fat loss should be the goal and the weight loss will take care of itself. Anyway, he is basically working out 2-3 hours a day. He had early success which is normal.

But now, he is always exhausted, over-training, under-eating and in a weight loss rut! This combination, if continued, is a recipe for fatigue, injuries, illness and little or no results! So his question was: "What's going wrong here?"

Easy answer! I just gave him a My Fitness Hut Fat Blaster Athletic Workout! This will solve his over-training, under-eating problem and give him fat loss and weight loss results that will last. Why? Because his weight training workouts will not exceed 50 minutes (3 times a week) and his interval cardio sessions will not exceed 20 minutes (3-4 times a week).

Instead of working out 20 hours a week (who has time for that?), he can get results with about 5 hours a week of exercise. And, instead of starving himself, he can eat right with the My Fitness Hut Meal Plan I provided him along with the workout! I'll let you know how he's doing!

Does this situation describe you? Then do what he did and make changes!
